busy, busy, busy

Apparently having a play date requires a play date schedule...or in this case and play-date segwal.  Either way, they are only on item #2.  It's not looking good for that fashion show for pets....
My favorite is #10, tickle Pickle.  I think it will be his favorite too.

?Habla Spanish?

Elaina: (staring at the jar of salsa) - Why does it say 'verde'?
Me: Well, what does 'verde' mean?
Elaina: It means green...
Me: There, you go...it's green salsa
Elaina: Well then why does it just say salsa?
Me: Salsa is a Spanish word too, it mean sauce.
Elaina to Humberto: Is she right?

It's hard to earn credibility in our house!

Disney?

At breakfast this morning...

Elaina: I am saving my tooth fairy money for vacation
Me: Oh, are you going to take Daddy to Disney, he's always wanted to go there.
Elaina: No, he'll want me to ride that one ride and be around that creepy mouse.
Me: creepy mouse? Mikey?
Elaina: Yes, he's creepy and he has a big head...like Dora.

Me: Do you guys want to do movie & popcorn Friday?
Y: But it's only Thursday
Me: I thought that yesterday was Wednesday too, but it wasn't.  Today really is Friday!
Elaina: *Gasp* Oh no, I'm wearing Tuesday panties!

Stranger Danger

This weeks writing is about dangerous bad guys, imaginary dogs and the never ending pursuit of band-aides...

A Stranger by Elaina De Santiago

One morning I was playing with my dog.  Then saw a STRANGER! I ran.  I ran to my Grams.  She called 9-1-1.  The stranger went to jail.  I got a band-aide because the stranger scratched me. And I hope that stranger is gone forever.

(Amen)

If I Had One Wish

If I had one wish, it would be to be a dog. Don't have to brush my teeth.  Don't have to go to school.  I get to run when ever I want. I would have a lot of energy but BEST of all I would get to have food when ever I want.  I really wish I was a dog.  I could go WOOF!

Her poor teacher...

Just received the following email from Elaina's teacher: Elaina came up to me today and said her throat felt funny. She claimed it was probably a "hairball".

My baby brother, Pickle

No Fear...

This week my daughter taught me a lesson in courage and faith.  She is getting her tonsils out on Friday and the thought of the unknown has been weighing on her.  She woke up one morning this week before 5am.  When I went in her room to help her get dressed, this sign was taped to her door:

It says:  BOO! I'm not scared of anything because I'm in God's armor

I guess the bat/sword is a precaution.  I'm glad that she can find comfort in her faith, it reminds me how often I fail to look there first.

p.s. yes, those ARE hair clips holding the whole thing together :)

To be cool....

Tonight Elaina was spending time with her grandma.  She was talking about a girl from her class who always dresses cute.  She said, "Grandma, I don't really wanna be cute...but I DO wanna be cool."

Good luck, baby...I know who your parents are!

Homework Gone Wild

After school, Elaina gave me her graded homework.  She had to write 3 sentences on instanced you could use fresh water (as opposed to salt water).  Here's what I got:

She was TRYING to say:
1.  We DRINK it.
2.  We wash us.
3. We COOK with it.

At least she got a 100!

Different is GOOD!

Humberto left early this morning for a short business trip.  On the days he is gone, I am completely open to bribing my child into good behavior.  She is NOT a morning kinda girl.  This morning it cost me a sausage biscuit and a hash brown (her favorite).  As I was backing out of the garage, things almost took a turn for the worst.

Elaina:  Someone else has the same as me! (insert hmph)
Me:  That's good! (don't even know what she is talking about, but I'm fully prepared to make lemonade out of her morning lemons!)
E:  They have the same Valentine as me!
Me:  That's good, everyone will get TWO fun dips!
E:  well...I did NOT appreciate that.
Me: there aren't that many valentines choices so that's probably why
E:  I just wanted to be different.  Different is good. (God, please let her remember this when it comes time for $50 jeans, $100 UGGS, body piercing, tramp stamps, spring break gone wild and "I really love him...he's in a band!"
Me: Yep, you're right...different IS good.
E: Can I have two hasbrowns
Me: NO!

Sick Day

Today I am the only "well" one in the house.  I think it's almost harder than being the sick one.  It's hard to watch your family suffer...feels so helpless.  Elaina came home from school with a fever, but still managed to tickle me.  Humberto was laying in bed after suffering all day with this yucky cold and Elaina came in and handed him a purple straw that she had carried in her pocket all day, just for him (heaven only knows where it came from - probably why she gets sick to begin with).  I was thinking how sweet she is when she said "Oh wait Mommy, I have something for you too".  I waited patiently while she took off her shoe and dug down in her sock to find my "gift". I little plastic, green bead shaped like a heart.  I love that girl!

Valentine Program

Last night, Elaina's school had their Valentine's day program.  It's really just a short program put on by the school after the PTA meeting.  If there was no show, no one would show up to listen to the minutes, budget, etc for the PTA.  Anyway, the show was super cute and Elaina actually got to speak into the microphone to say a little Valentine's fact. She was wonderful. Today after school, one of the babysitting kids asked her how the program was...here's how the conversations went:

Y:  How was your program?
E:  Good!
Me:  E did a great job!
E to Y:  You know why I was so awesome?  It's because I thought about my audience!

Here she is nervously shoving her hands up her sleeves...apparently BEFORE she realized she was awesome.

On the way out of school, we also saw a little artwork that she had created regarding her favorite bell.  This was hanging in the hallway....

Another day in the life of me!
